The national army took control of the village of Kipese, south-east of the capital of the territory of Lubero (North Kivu), after having dislodged, on Saturday evening 15 July in the evening, the alleged Mayi-Mayi group Mazembe.

Attacked by surprise, the FARDC had to land, leaving the village in the hands of those rebels who occupied it for a few hours.

According to the spokesman for operations Sokola 1 south, Lieutenant Jules Ngongo, the defense forces subsequently launched offensive and driven out these Mayi-Mayi.

Reassuring that the situation had become calm again in the village of Kipese, Lieutenant Jules Ngongo said that the army was carrying out patrols to pacify the area.

In addition, it gives an assessment of five killed fighters and a few others injured, but none captured. On the FARDC side, two soldiers died and two others wounded.

Meanwhile, local civil society says the population has fled Kipese to seek refuge in neighboring villages, fearing a possible return of these Mayi-Mayi.
